Youth Philanthropy Project
Last night the Foundation wrapped up our very first Youth Philanthropy Project in partnership with the YMCA of Grays Harbor. This project aimed to connect young people with a passion for their community to the skills and tools necessary to cultivate change.
We spent the last two weeks together learning about philanthropy on a local level and how important it is to the sustainability of Grays Harbor nonprofits. We walked through the grant process and asked four local nonprofits (one from each of our Giving Priorities) to come do a short presentation on their impact in our community.
The students were then given the opportunity to make a $5,000 funding recommendation to the GHCF Board based on the organization’s application and presentation.
We are so proud of the Youth Philanthropy Board and their passion and professionalism through this process! Our greatest takeaway is that so many of us are already philanthropists through our volunteer work, community engagement and resources. It takes all of us working together to make change and these students already were making change within their own communities and were now given the opportunity to make an impact through philanthropic dollars.
The winning organization will be presented with a check at the YMCA’s 2019 Strong Kids Campaign Kick-Off Meeting.
Thank you to the YMCA of Grays Harbor and to the wonderful organizations that volunteered to make this project a success! And of course to the students- you are our community’s future and it was so much fun working with you!
