Transition to Kindergarten (4-5 Year Olds) - Fill out the screening request first!
Kindergarten (5-6 Year Olds)
Preschool (3-4 Year Olds)
The primary purpose of our preschool program is to serve students with special needs. A developmental preschool for three and four-year-olds is available to qualifying children with delays in communication, social/emotional, adaptive, cognitive, and/or physical development. Children must reside within the Montesano School District boundaries and meet the conditions for enrollment.
FREE DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENINGS:
At this time, we are not offering a community preschool program. However, we encourage all parents to sign their children up for a free developmental screening. Please complete the online form to request a free screening to determine preschool eligibility. Enrollment applications for preschoolers are not needed at this time. You will be contacted by the preschool team to schedule an appointment. Results of the developmental screening will be given at the time of your appointment. Please plan for 1 hour and 15 minutes for this appointment.
Special Education:
Our preschool program is fundamentally different from the other community or co-op preschool programs since its primary directive is to identify preschool students with disabilities and provide them with the special education services. When students with disabilities are served in the developmental preschool, they receive specialized instruction in a developmentally appropriate preschool classroom. A developmental preschool for three and four-year-olds is available to qualifying children with delays in communication, social/emotional, adaptive, cognitive, and/or physical development.
Transition to Kindergarten (4-5 Year Olds)
Transition to kindergarten is a free, full day early entrance kindergarten program for children aged 4-5 who do not have access to high-quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten and have been deemed by a school district, through a screening process, to be in need of additional preparation to be successful in kindergarten the following year. The program uses play-based strategies that focus on basic academic and social skills to help qualifying students get a jump start towards success in school. Submission for attendance starts in the spring for the following start of the school year. Children must be 4 years old prior to September 1 of the current school year in order to be eligible for the transition to kindergarten program.

Kindergarten (5-6 Year Olds)
To be eligible for kindergarten, a student must be five years of age prior to September 1 of the current school year. Full-day kindergarten is offered to all students free of charge.

Out of District Students
If you reside outside the Montesano School District boundaries, you are required to annually submit a Non Resident Choice Form for each child. This application is available online at https://eds.ospi.k12.wa.us/choicetransferrequest. If your child’s resident (home) district is not listed, you will need to fill out and submit the Non Resident Choice Form directly to the district office to be considered for enrollment.
Families are encouraged to submit the application as soon as possible, however, the district may not approve out of district applications until the start of school in August.
